In this lovely company there is a tradition of leaving ‘Good Luck’ gifts for your fellow colleagues, often at their dressing room door if not personally delivered… Pronounced ‘Poy Poy’, this Danish saying has no literal translation, but is received as a sincere ‘well wish’ for your performance that evening. Pøj Pøjs are abundant on premiere night’s especially, often if a dancer is getting to do a big role for the first time, the gifts and goodies just keep on coming… I often forget about this adorable custom in the midst of endless rehearsals and stage calls, and it always comes as the most delightful surprise when the hard work has paid off, and all that you are left with is the performance to enjoy, and a rich bar of chocolate afterwards.
