Today, as we kick off December with a double-performance premiere, I would like to dedicate this particular post to all of the dancers who grace the world’s stages as a “Snowflake” or a “Flower” this Nutcracker Season.
The corps de ballet clusters of ‘Snow’ & ‘Flowers’ are the equivalent to the flocks of Swans & Sylphs in other notable ballets, however they require a tremendous amount of dancing and dedication to reinventing the excitement & exposition of choreography when performances occur on a near-daily basis throughout a chilly month of ‘cracking nuts’.
So, here’s to every last blossoming flower & falling snowflake that contribute just as much to the magic as one SugarPlum Fairy.
Happy December! ~p.e.

Love your photos Shelby! I’m doing a double performance today as well and I am also a snowflake and a flower at some point during the show! :) Good luck!
“Pøj Pøj” as we say here Lauren, enjoy a healthy, happy run of Nutcrackers!!!!
BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS! Thank-you for sharing. Enjoy your performances!!!!
Bless all the dancers in “Nutcrackers” everywhere for their passion and for performing their “A” game every time they are on stage. Somewhere in each audience is a child whose life is changed thanks to your dedication…the next generation who will perform the “Nutcracker” thanks to seeing you……Cheers and Happy Holidays!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos. The sounds of the season always remind me of my time spend performing in the Nutcrackers, as well as my very first time seeing the NYC ballet perform it when I was a child. It encouraged me to become more serious about my hobby as a child and changed my life forever. Break a leg to all of you out there continuing the tradition this year all around the world.
Thanks so much! I absolutely love being a snowflake :)
Love your pictures Shelby, particularly the snowflake costumes. And you’re right, all dancers should appreciate “run after run” & “year after year” of snowflake and flower shows! Your inspiration helps!
What a wonderful blog… two of my most favorite things in life… ballet and baking :-). I´ve signed up for the newsletter and looking forward hearing more from your blog… happy x-mas
